VH-EBL
Douglas DC-4-1009
(c/n 43067)
VH-EBL was delivered new to
Trans Australia Airlines in 1946 as VH-TAC. It was transferred
to British Commonwealth Pacific
Airlines in 1948 becoming VH-BPA. Qantas acquired it the following
year. Since, at that time,
these were all corporations owned, or at least governed, by the
Commonwealth
of Australia, these transactions were probably
accomplished by a bunch of journal entries, rather than any
actual cash
transactions. It was sold off to Ansett-ANA in 1961
becoming the second VH-INY.
Then to a couple of diamond mine operations in South
Africa as ZS-IGB to transport miners to and from
the Union to the mines of
South West Africa, It was finally broken up at Eros
Airport, Windhoek, in
1979.
