VH-BZM
Convair 440-61 Metropolitan
(c/n 465)
VH-BZM was
built for Ansett Airlines in 1957 and delivered in October of that year
in Ansett-ANA
titling. At least the paint shop
in San Diego didn't have a problem getting it right, since they had
plenty
of experience in painting Braniff
Convairs over the past decade in the virtually the same scheme!
The
color shot above
is via Nigel Daw and came from the archives of the Civil Aviation
Historical Society
of
SA. This Convair was only with Ansett for five years, being sold
in 1962 to Allegheny Airlines as
N8422H
who converted it, in due course, into a CV-580, whereupon it became
N5835. Anyway,
during its short spell in Australia it spent time under
lease/loan to both Butler Air Transport and
Queensland Airlines. It had a varied career after leaving
Allegheny in 1978 and, until quite recently
was
still flying in Canada as C-FKFL
