VH-BYO Auster
J/1B Aiglet (c/n 2687)
The Aiglet was a converted Autocrat with a
Gipsy Major1 engine and was conceived as an
agricultural and crop
dusting aircraft. More than 30 appeared on the Australian civil
register
and, by and large,
they were brought in engineless and finished by Kingsford Smith
Aviation
Services in
Bankstown, NSW. Here is one in the role for which it
was designed. This machine
had previously
been registered VH-KBN in the KSAS block. It was withdrawn from
use in 1960.
