VH-BUR Douglas
DC-3CS1C3G (c/n 19934)
This DC-3 was owned by the Bureau of Mineral
Resources and was used in 1956 on an
airborne
scintillograph test survey in the Cloncurry/Mt. Isa area of
Queensland. It is seen
above outside
the DCA hangar at Essendon in that year where it had stopped for routine
maintenance by the
Department. By the time Geoff Goodall took a photo of it at
Mildura
in 1965 it had acquired a more colorful paint job (below). VH-BUR
was built as a
C-47A-85-DL. serial
number 43-15468 and
was previously operated by Qantas as VH-BHE
on their
internal New Guinea
services. Before being given away in 1971 as part of a
foreign
aid
program to Royal Nepal Airlines (where it became 9N-AAY) it was
operated by the curiously
named JetAirlines of
Australia as seen in the image at the foot of the page taken by Greg
Banfield
at Mascot in April 1970.
