VH-BSE de
Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth (c/n 815)
VH-BSE was also an ex-DCA aircraft (VH-CAF) ,
operated by Tasmanian Aero Club.
The above photo,
taken in 1953, was before the club's tail stripes had been applied. It
later went to the
Aero Club of Southern Tasmania at
Cambridge Airport, Hobart. Seen
below is an image by
Norm Weeding taken in 1960 (c/o the Geoff Goodall collection)
showing the
aircraft after it went to Hobart, but still wearing the Tassie Aero
Club stripes.
Finally, it went to
the Hobart Aero Club and crashed near Cambridge
Airport in 1962.
The photograph
on the foot of the page (also from the Geoff Goodall collection) shows
it dismantled in the
hangar at Cambridge following the accident. The Tiger was sold as
a rebuild
project to local aviator Vern Reid and new a new rego VH-DVR was
allocated
(but never taken up).
It was completed and painted as VH-DVR but a new CofA had
not yet been
applied for when it was destroyed by a bush fire on Vern Reid's farm
airstrip
at Rokeby, near
Hobart in February 1967. The fire also destroyed his airworthy
Tiger
VH-AIF.
