VH-BMY de
Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth
(c/n DHA926/T256)
This canopied
Tiger, seen here in a copy of a snapshot taken off by Roger McDonald,
was first
civilianized in
March 1949. It was the former A17-503. The shot above was
possibly taken at
Lismore, NSW,
circa 1948. The Tiger appears to be wearing a RACNSW badge on the
rudder.
It was extensively
damaged in a crash at Canowindra, NSW on 2 September 1950, although
lived
to fly again, being restored by the club
as VH-RNM somewhere around 1957. I suspect at that
time it lost its canopy. In 1959 it
was sold off by the Royal Aero Club of NSW and became
VH-BTU. It was
then sold in the USA as N3862. In May 1982 it went to the
UK and was given
the 'period' (and
previously not-alloted) rego of G-AGZZ. It is still
current, based in Devon and
flies in the air show circuit from time to
time. Mick Bajcar's photo (below) was taken back in 1984
at Biggin Hill.
