VH-BJL
(1) de Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth
(c/n DHA1064)
A rather washed
out, uncontrasty image gleaned from the archives of Exxon Mobil
by Wally
Civitico. VH-BJL was the former
A17-733, and was civilianized in June 1949. The name on
the rudder is 'Jean', although I have no idea
who owned it. It didn't last long (at least as -BJL),
for it was seriously damaged at Proserpine, Queensland (that's up among
the sugar country) on
3 November
1949. It languished then for over thirty
years, being
finally restored in August
of 1982 as
VH-BJU(2). It is still current and has remained based at
Cecil Plains, Queensland
ever since. Dave Welch took
the shot below of it as -BJU(2) at that remote locale in January
of 2011. Nice
to see it as a "non-warbird'.
