VH-BGR de Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth
(c/n
DHA797/T047)
VH-BGR was civilianized in 1948
having spent its previous life as A17-647. It was one of those
Tigers
originally destined for the EFTS in South Africa where it would have
become DX740, but
was diverted to the RAAF
instead. The hangar shot above by Bob Neate, taken at
Narromine,
NSW in
December 1962, shows it when owned by the Narromine Aero Club, although
it had
been retired and struck off the Register in July 1961 when replaced by
Cessnas. (Colin Pay's
ex RAAF
Mustang A68-175 is behind). Resale values of Tiger Moths
were so low at that
time that it
was just left in the hangar, until sold to a private owner at nearby
Dubbo, who brought
it
back on the Register in September 1964. The image
below by Greg Banfield shows it at
Coonabarabran, NSW in November of 1965. -BGR is still currently
on the civil register and
owned by
Geoffrey Airey in NSW's Central Coast area.
