VH-BBZ (2) Piper PA-30-160 Twin
Comanche
(c/n 30-60)
The photos above and immediately below are by
Greg Banfield, whilst the one at the foot of the page
is by Danny Tanner.
Above, the Twin Comanche is seen at Williamtown, NSW in September 1964
and below, in
December 1963 in the
hangar at Bankstown just after its arrival from the US
and still
wearing its
previous registration of N7096Y. In the
event, it
did not actually appear on the VH-
register until April of 1964.
In Danny's shot at the foot of the page it had acquired
wing-tip tanks.
Photos of aircraft thus equipped are
difficult to 'get right' since the tanks get in the way .
Danny did a
good job on this one. The
photo was taken at remote Wee Waa, a small town in the New England
region of
NSW. Like my other mate, Geoff Goodall, Danny sure
did get around a lot! VH-BBZ
is still current and
registered to a private owner in Forbes, NSW.
