VH-BBG Avro 652A
Anson 1 (c/n ?)
This interesting shot was taken at Port
Moresby, New Guinea, and shows an Anson with a
modified
nose cone. Most Ansons had a hallmark 'flat nose' (compare this
aircraft with
VH-AOA). Noted aviation
historian Fred Niven states that both this, and VH-AOA were
operated
by Papuan Air Transport at one period in their careers.
Incidentally, the
machine
in the
hangar
in the background is another Anson, this one
being the Department of Civil
Aviation's
VH-CAC. The shot below is from the Geoff Goodall collection
and shows
VH-BBG "out to
pasture" at Archerfield, Brisbane in 1959 after having failed a DCA glue
adhesion test. Barely visible are the
"Papuan Air Transport" titles above the windows.
