VH-BAP de Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth
(c/n DHA589)
Like many of the VH-B series, several
registrations were issued twice to the the same type of
aircraft. I do wish DCA hadn't done that!
Anyway, this is the first Tiger Moth registered
VH-BAP
(the second was registered in 1958) and is seen here near Brisbane,
circa 1948. It
first came on
the register in March 1947, being ex A17-414. The titles of its
owner, Queensland
Aerial
Ambulance and Taxi Service are on the rudder. This outfit
purchased a surprising number
of
aircraft from RAAF disposals at that time including Tiger Moths, Moth
Minors, Dragons, and
Ansons
for civil conversion. This photo was taken by Ivan Unwin who
worked for them in 1948
and is
shown here courtesy of the Geoff Goodall collection. This
first VH-BAP crashed at
Yamba, NSW on
27 September 1948 and was written off.
