VH-AZA de Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth
(c/n DHA979)
In the late 1940s and early 50s the Royal
Queensland Aero Club maintained a fleet of immaculate
Tigers,
one of the nicest flying of which was VH-AZA. This shot was
outside the hangar at Archer-
field in
1952. VH-AZA was built as A17-544 for the RAAF. After
serving 14 faithful years with
the RQAC this
machine "moved West" and was acquired by aerial agricultural operator
John Forrest
Pty Ltd of
Carnamah, WA. Some years later it was picked up by
Cunderdin-based Bob Couper
Pty Ltd and is
seen in a nice image below by Geoff Goodall at that base August of 1969
where it was
working as a
glider tug . Two months after Geoff's shot was taken it was to be
written off in a crash
at
the same field (on 25 Oct 1969).
