This aircraft was formerly Qantas' VH-EAV delivered in
November 1954. In 1959 it was used
in New Guinea and sold back to de Havillands
at Bankstown in March 1959, wherein it was re-
registered
VH-DHI. . From there it was fitted with floats and went to
Fiji Airways as VQ-FAA.
In
February 1953 it was sold and returned to Australia as VH-AVR for
Aerial Agriculture Pty Ltd
and
registered VH-AVR. It is seen above at Bankstown in this photo
from the Wally Scott collec-
tion. Why it was not in their VH-AA block with the company's
other Beavers is not known. Its
Australian crop-dusting life was short, the aircraft being destroyed at
Aberfoyle, (near Armidale),
NSW on 9
July 1964 when a wing broke away in flight. It was
the second similar event, following
VH-AAQ which suffered a wing collapse, also at Armidale in
September the previous year. The
DCA investigation resulted in a redesigned wing strut fitting
for elderly Beavers built in the 1950s.
