VH-AUY de
Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth (c/n 83153)
This
Tiger was formerly with the Tasmanian Aero Club and leads the line up
of the entire fleet in the
nice photo gleaned by Martin Eadie
shown under VH-BLV. The
shot above, taken at Moorabbin in
1957 shows the aircraft after
having been fitted with spray bars for agricultural work. VH-AUY
was
a UK-built machine, serving in the
RAAF with its RAF serial
T5410 It was owned by Aerial Crop-
dusters and Sprayers Pty. Ltd.
The
photograph below shows it with slightly different company titles,
whilst shot # 3 was taken by Peter Keating
earlier at Bankstown in June 1955 whilst -AUY was still
with Kingsford Smith Flying
Services' pilot school. The photo at the
foot of the page, taken
by
Richard E.
Hourigan (via John Hopton) at Albury in
April
1962 shows yet another rendition of Aerials'
titling. .
By that time fuselage regos were back in favor. Note odd
wire
arrangement on prop spinner
of the Wirraway A20-685 in the left
background in this photo. The Wirraway was
one of two pur-
chased by Marshall Spreading Service at
Albury - allegedly for CA-28 Ceres spares,
although in fact
they kept A20-685 in tip-top
condition
in their Albury hangar and taxied it around the
airfield
occasionally.
Anyway, back to VH-AUY: it was written off in a
crash near
Galore, NSW in
1963.
