VH-AQV Avro 652A Anson 1
This Anson was operated by the NSW Police Deparment,
Sydney from 1947 to 1950. It was
formerly with the
RAAF as W2145. The above rare shot, from the Geoff
Goodall collection,
was probably taken at
Mascot in the late 1940s. -AQV was acquired by Laurie Crowley in 1955
for his Crowley Airways,
operating out of Lae, New Guinea, and re-registered VH-CSC. It was
retired from service
in 1958 due to poor glue adhesion in the wings. The tropical
conditions of
New Guinea played havoc
with wood bonded aircraft, many of which were withdrawn before the
mandatory DCA ruling to do
so was issued in 1962.
