Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth
(c/n 82573)
This
Tiger (ex A17-19) is still flying today. My shot (above) shows it
looking quite smart at
Camden NSW in
1955. It was then converted to a crop duster and flew with
various outfits
in NSW and WA.
Mike Madden's photo (below, via the Geoff Goodall collection) taken in
March 1963 at
Maylands, shows it looking positively grotty after it had been retired
by Blaxell
& Grummels and
left out in the open. Fortunately it was taken to a garage
in Perth later that
year and rebuilt with
metal side panels and (unusual for Australian Tigers) an anti-spin
strake
forward of the
tailplane. The beautiful end product can be seen in Geoff's
shot at the foot of
the page taken at
Beverly, WA in November 1980. It is now privately owned and
registered
to Tiger Moth
Joyrides Pty. Ltd. in the Surfers Paradise, Queensland area
