VH-AMU de
Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth
(c/n DHA397)
This was the second Tiger to
bear the rego VH-AMU. The first, (c/n DHA230), was wfu
in October 1947. This
one (ex RAAF A17-362) came on the register at the end of 1947 as
VH-BKC. It was withdrawn from use in 1951 and
resurrected sometime later as VH-WFY.
It was re-registered VH-AMU in
October 1960 and was originally one of Bob Couper's
agricultural Tigers. Note
non-standard curved rear cockpit treatment. Geoff Goodall's shot
above was
taken at Beverley, WA in November 1970. One month later it was to
crash on a
farm
at North Baandee, WA (13 December 1970), luckily with no loss of
life. However, the
aircraft was written off with only
the rear fuselage and tailplane undamaged.
