VH-AKE  de Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth                 (c/n  DHA416)

                           

                               VH-AKE when on the strength of the Canberra Aero Club, circa 1954.   Note derelict Wackett
                               Trainer A3-154 in background, which never went onto the Australian civil register, but was
                               cannibalized to make parts for others.  -AKE was an Australian-built Tiger, formerly A17-375
                               with the RAAF.  The nearest motor car is a  Renault 760, and behind it a 1920/30s 'bomb' (quite
                               common in the early 50s).  Two decades later (22 February 1975), Greg Banfield saw it at Berwick,
                               Victoria, wearing an all yellow paint scheme (below).  VH-AKE is still current, as seen in the photo
                               at the foot of the page taken by Phil Vabre  at Kyabb in 2010.  Naturally the aircraft now sports a
                               "warbird" paint job.  .  .
