VH-AHQ Auster 5
(c/n 1349)
If this old Auster
were flying to day it would be all decked out in "Invasion Stripes" and
RAF
roundels and all
kinds of nonsense to indicate its "War Bird" status. Not so in
1954 when this
shot was taken at Bankstown. In those days it
was just a normal aerial workhorse. It was, in
fact, an ex-RAF Auster, having the serial number
TJ260, but I doubt it ever saw any action.
Several were
shipped out to the Antipodes (New Zealand received more) immediately
after
the war where they found a
ready market. VH-AHQ was written off in a fire at
Bankstown
in 1960.
