VH-AID Douglas DC-3CS1C3G
(c/n 33097)
In 1971 several ex-RAAF Dakotas
were made available to the Department of Foreign Affairs
for work in the Australian Aid
scheme, rendering assistance to (mainly) Cambodia during the
Viet Nam war. These
aircraft were basically donated (given away). VH-AID was one of
them
although, as such, was only
delivered to Cambodia in 1977. The above shot, from the
Eric
Wagner
collection, shows it at Mascot, probably in
1977. A late model C-47B-30-DK. it
was
originally delivered to the RAAF in May of 1945, as A65-96, going to 77
sqn in Korea
in 1950 for communication runs
back to Australia from Japan. I am not aware of its
final fate.
