VH-AHP de
Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth
(c/n DHA162)
This Tiger, formerly A17-161, had been
a sprayer with Farmair Pty Ltd until it was retired in 1965,
when it was replaced by Piper Pawnees. Geoff Goodall's shot above
was taken at Jandakot in June
1968. When sold to private owners, a rudimentary conversion
back to a two seater was made (as
seen
above) but the aircraft was badly weather beaten and in 1970 was sold
to Perth TV station
Channel
Seven who were establishing a transport museum at their TV studios in
the Perth suburb
of Mount
Yokine. Geoff's shot below shows it at the Mount Yokine
studio grounds in March 1970,
cosmetically restored and repainted all yellow as RAAF
"A17-161". It was later installed in a newly
built
transport museum along with CA-28 Ceres VH-DAT restored back to a RAAF
Wirraway in
wartime
camouflage, plus a collection of veteran cars and trucks. A change of
management at the TV
studio saw the museum abandoned a few years later and this Tiger
was donated to the Airforce
Association Museum at Bull Creek.
