VH-AFN de Havilland D.H.60G Gipsy Moth
(c/n LASCO 27)
This was one
of the (over 30) Gipsy Moths built under licence by Larkin Supply Co of
Melbourne
in 1928
for the RAAF. The c/n given of # 27 is in doubt, and most
references merely give its military
serial (A7-44) as the c/n. It remained with the RAAF at various
EFTSs in the 1930s and was disburs-
ed, free,
to the Royal Queensland Aero Club on 27 June 1945. The above
shot, from the John Oxley
Library,
State Library of Queensland collection, was taken at Archerfield circa
1949 and shows it
sporting
the club's rudder stripes. It was exported to the US in 1968 as
N168G. After an extensive
restoration in
the late 1990s the Moth is now currently flying with Early Birds
Collection out of Lelystad
in the
Netherlands, still with its US registration.
