VH-ADS (2) Auster J/5B
Autocar
(c/n 2947)
Thus far I have not been able to glean a photo of this, the second
VH-ADS showing the entire air-
craft. The above shot, from the Bob Neate collection, was
taken at Wagga, NSW in August 1954
whilst the aircraft was taking part in the Redex Air Trial which
flew Sydney-Brisbane-Darwin-Alice
Springs-Adelaide-Wagga-Sydney. The Autocar
was entered by Guinea Airways, Adelaide who
had purchased it new in September 1952 for light charter, dingo
baiting and aeria surveys from the
airline's Adelaide
base. That's Guinea Airways senior pilot Captain
N. S. "Nobby" Buckley handling
the refueling, who
flew it solo in the trial. The two shots below are from
the South Australian Aviation
Museum collection and
show -ADS following a forced landing at Olary, SA near Broken Hill
on
4
September1954. Guinea Airways traded the wreck to Auster
agents Kingsford Smith Aviation
Services in Sydney, wherein it was rebuilt it for resale to Bush
Pilots Airways of Cairns, NQ who
registered it
VH-BPA. .
