VH-ADP (1) de Havilland D.H.60M
Moth
(c/n MSB8655)
VH-ADP was an unusual
D.H.60M believed to have been assembled by the RAAF at Laverton
using a fuselage manufactured by the Munitions Supply Board works at
Maribynong, Melbourne,
and used
by the RAAF as A7-71 (hence the weird c/n). It was released
to Spencers Gulf Aero
Club at
Whyalla SA in October 1941 when military training contracts were given
to civil aero clubs
during
the establishment of the EFTS program. Registered
VH-ADP on 25 April 1941 it is seen
above in
this shot from the Geoff Goodall collection after it had been converted
to DH.60GIII Moth
Major
status (making it, at first glance, indistinguishable from a Tiger
Moth). VH-ADP was written
off in a
crash at Mooreenia, SA in December 1948..
