Express
(c/n 2313)
If I had been the photographer I
would have removed the steps. This image is from the
Charles
Ohlson collection and is presented
courtesy of the Civil Aviation Historical Society archives. This
Express was formerly with Wearne
Brothers Ltd of Singapore, where it had been registered
VR-SBD It had been built as G-ACYF for Jersey Airways and
operated out of Heston to the
Channel Islands. From Singapore it went to Carpenter Airlines in
June 1940 and was then almost
immediately impressed into service with the RAAF as A31-2. It was
reworked by Ansett to RAAF
requirements and is seen above outside their hangar at Essendon in
November 1940. It appears
to have been scrapped during WW II.
