VH-ADN  (1)  de Havilland D.H.86A Express                     (c/n  2313)

                                  

                                       If I had been the photographer I would have removed the steps.   This image is from the Charles
                                       Ohlson collection and is presented courtesy of the Civil Aviation Historical Society archives. This
                                       Express was formerly with Wearne Brothers Ltd of Singapore, where it had been registered
                                       VR-SBD   It had been built as G-ACYF for Jersey Airways and operated out of Heston to the
                                       Channel Islands.  From Singapore it went to Carpenter Airlines in June 1940 and was then almost
                                       immediately impressed into service with the RAAF as A31-2.  It was reworked by Ansett to RAAF
                                       requirements and is seen above outside their hangar at Essendon in November 1940.   It appears
                                       to have been scrapped during WW II.                                    :
