VH-ADB de
Havilland D.H.94 Moth Minor
(c/n 94077)
The above photo, from the Geoff
Goodall collection was taken at Maylands, Perth in February
1940 when this
Moth Minor was brand new and had just been imported for the Royal Aero
Club of
WA. It looks like a CofA image. The aircraft was used in
the embryo civil flying training
scheme to train
pilots for the RAAF. It had a very short life, crashing in
a Perth suburb on 20
March 1940. Oddly the picture below appeared in the Sydney
Morning Herald for 23 March
1940 (it
may also have been in the Perth papers) and was, the SMH proudly
claimed "air mailed"
over to
them. VH-ADB had dived into a
paddock near Dunreath Golf Club, and the RACWA
instructor, J.
Tudor-Evans and his RAAF Cadet
A.J. Macpherson were both killed.
