VH-ABI Lockheed L-14H Super Electra
(c/n 1418)
VH-ABI was delivered to Guinea Airways in 1938. The shot above,
via Lockheed Aircraft, depicts
the machine in flight, when
new. Immediately below, from the Robert Milburn collection, is an
image
of -ABI taken by his father
possibly at Oodnadatta, SA, circa 1938. Ron Cuskelly's
photo, below
that, shows the nose of -ABI
identified by the name, "Koranga",
whilst illustration # 4 is an image
from the State Library of South
Australia collection, wherein the 14
is seen at Parafield, circa 1938
in company with Electras VH-UXH
and
Broken Hill's
VH-ABH. Shortly after this photograph was
taken VH-ABI crashed at Katherine,
NT
(on 18 January 1939) killing all on
board. The runway
length of only 700 yards was
insufficient for
the craft to gain flying speed and it
crashed into a nearby
river gorge The photo at the
foot of the page of the remains is also from the Robert Milburn
collection.
