VH-AAV  de Havilland D.H.87B Hornet Moth                 (c/n 8019)

This print of mine, circa 1947 had a lot of light leakage and water marks.  I have tried to clean it up
The image below from the John Oxley Library, State Library of Queensland collection is somewhat
nicer and predates mine by about a decade.  Both depict the Hornet Moth in service with the Royal
Queensland Aero Club.  The tail stripes were applied in the late 1930s.  VH-AAV was previously
registered in the U.K. as G-ADKF and came to Australia in August of 1937.   Interestingly it was
described by DCA as a D.H.87A (tapered wing) and registered as such, although it had already
been converted in the U.K. to the square wing variety before being shipped to Australia.   Possibly
the ID plate described it as an "A":    VH-AAV had an accident at Hughenden, Qld in December
1955 and appears not to have been registered after that.. .
